This afternoon at the Viitaniemi campus of Gradia in Jyväskylä, multiple police units were deployed in response to a report of an armed individual spotted in the area. Authorities have stated that they do not suspect any criminal activity related to the incident.

The police received an emergency call at around 12 PM on Thursday regarding an armed person on campus. The report came from an individual who had received credible information via a Snapchat message. Police conducted searches of the campus buildings and surrounding areas, as well as reviewing surveillance footage, but found no concrete evidence to support the presence of an armed person.

Additionally, police carried out investigative duties in the Kirri neighborhood concerning the case and looked into the involvement of one individual. However, this person is not suspected of any wrongdoing, and no one is currently being sought in connection with the incident.

There will be no preliminary investigation based on the findings. The situation has affected thousands of students and faculty members, prompting the educational institution to communicate with students and their families about the event and to provide crisis support. Assistance is also available through the Central Finland welfare area’s social and crisis services, accessible 24/7 at the number 014 266 0149.
