A man suspected of a fatal incident that occurred on Monday in Ojakkala, Vihd, was not detained today at the West Uusimaa District Court. The decision regarding his detention has been postponed, and the suspected individual’s arrest will continue until the next hearing scheduled for September 2.

The police have proposed that the 27-year-old man be imprisoned on probable cause for suspected manslaughter and attempted manslaughter. Authorities believe that he directed violence towards two adults, one of whom died at the scene, while the other required hospitalization for their injuries.

Reports indicate that the suspect and the victims are related. According to Ilta-Sanomat, the deceased is the suspect’s father, emeritus professor Raimo Kantola, while the injured victim is his mother. Kantola worked as a professor at the Technical University and Aalto University and was known for his active support of Ukraine, maintaining a blog on the subject.

The police have refrained from commenting on the details of the incident or the identities of the victims. According to Yle, Raimo Kantola passed away on August 26, 2024. Both Kantola and his wife are the suspect’s parents, and there have been previous applications for guardianship regarding the suspect due to health issues.

The suspect and the victims previously resided at the same address in Vihd, where the homicide occurred, although their current residence is elsewhere. The suspect has admitted to the crime during police questioning, and authorities are continuing their investigation to clarify the events. Additionally, they are conducting a technical examination and interviewing witnesses. Reports suggest that the suspect has a prior criminal record, including convictions related to property crimes, drugs, and violence.
