Families in Sweden to receive extended housing support benefit until June 2025

Families with children receiving a temporary supplemental benefit alongside housing support can expect an extension of the benefit period. The government has proposed extending this supplemental benefit until June 2025, albeit at a reduced level of 25 percent of the preliminary housing support. This adjustment means the benefit will decrease to the same rate as in 2020 and 2021, as well as for the period from July 1, 2022, to June 30, 2023.

“This is a well-balanced extension,” stated Anna Tenje, Minister of Elderly Care and Social Insurance, in a press release. “We are continuing to support economically vulnerable households while gradually reducing the benefit from 40 to 25 percent of housing support.”

It is estimated that the supplemental benefit will reach an average of 100,000 families with children in 2025.
