Families to receive extended supplementary benefits in Sweden until June 2025

Families with children receiving temporary supplementary benefits alongside housing support can now expect an extension of the benefit period. The government plans to extend this supplementary benefit until June 2025, although at a reduced level of 25 percent of the preliminary housing allowance. This adjustment means that the benefit will decrease from its current 40 percent to align with the levels provided during 2020 and 2021, as well as from July 1, 2022, to June 30, 2023.

Social Insurance and Senior Minister Anna Tenje announced that the extension is a “carefully balanced” approach aimed at continuing support for financially vulnerable households while gradually reducing the assistance. According to projections, around 100,000 families with children are expected to benefit from this supplementary support throughout 2025.
