Retail sector faces workforce shortage in Faroe Islands

Faroe Islands

The retail sector in the Faroe Islands is experiencing a significant workforce shortage, as noted by Eyðvør Berg, chairwoman of the Trade Association, which represents local businesses. She highlighted the challenges retailers are facing in attracting staff.

A recent study from the Business House indicates that private companies in the Faroes currently lack up to 350 employees, with demand expected to grow over the next five years. This shortage particularly affects the local retail industry.

Many stores are struggling to find qualified workers, and Berg expressed concern that there have been delays in modernizing vocational education in the Faroe Islands, which could help address the skills gap. The need for updated training programs is crucial for meeting the demands of today’s job market.
