A man went on a rampage at Guðrúnartún 1 on Monday morning, causing significant damage to vehicle parking areas and vandalizing the building’s exterior. He threw stones at cars and destroyed parts of the stone cladding. In a separate incident on Tuesday morning, another man, not believed to be related to the first, broke into the building through a window and forced open a lock to an office space on the second floor. Both individuals reportedly assaulted staff members who were arriving for work early in the morning.

Tjörvi Berndsen, chairman of the property management association at Guðrúnartún 1, noted that these incidents have been extremely unsettling for employees, emphasizing the need for their support. Numerous organizations, including the Icelandic Confederation of Labour and various unions, occupy the building, but there is no indication that the assailants targeted them specifically. The motivations behind these actions remain unclear.

All damages have been reported to the police, and insurance companies have been informed. Tjörvi stated that security protocols would be reviewed, particularly regarding access to the building. He was unable to confirm whether employees required any further physical or mental health support but reiterated that ensuring their safety is the top priority.
