Two boys, aged nine and twelve, who were trapped under a sandslide in Nørre Vorupør on Sunday, have passed away. The boys died last night, as reported by Region Midtjylland.

The families of the boys expressed their gratitude for the support and assistance provided by the local community and all involved emergency services. The boys were from the Munich area and were on vacation in Denmark.

Local police continue to regard the incident as a tragic accident. Previously, they stated that the boys were digging a den when the accident occurred. According to preliminary investigations, they were engaged in some form of excavation and possibly digging a hideout in the dunes. Unfortunately, this caused a collapse of the structure they were in, burying them under the sand, explained Henrik Jensen, the police commissioner leading the response team in Thisted.

Emergency services, along with approximately 30 volunteers, attempted to rescue the boys. They were airlifted to a hospital by a medical helicopter but were in critical condition.
