Nordic Council holds annual meeting in Tórshavn with new leadership announced

The Nordic Council is currently holding its annual meeting at the Nordic House in the capital city of Tórshavn, where elected members gather for discussions.

The council consists of six parliamentarians from Greenland, the Faroe Islands, and Iceland, marking the 40th annual session of this assembly. Additionally, politicians and guests from other Nordic countries are present, addressing matters of interest for the northern regions.

The agenda for the meeting, which kicked off on Tuesday, includes topics such as civil preparedness in the north and language in a digital society, along with other relevant issues, including international cooperation.

On Thursday at 5 PM, the Nordic Council’s Children’s and Young Adult Literature Prize will be awarded during a public event at the Nordic House.

Greenland will assume the presidency for the coming year, with Doris J. Jensen taking on the role of the new chair. Steinunn Tóra Árnadóttir will serve as the first vice-chair, while the current chair, Jenis av Rana, will take on the role of second vice-chair.
