Faroese police officer appeals sexual harassment conviction from Tórshavn court

Eystari Landsrættur has received the case of a Faroese police officer, who was sentenced to ten days of conditional imprisonment by the Faroese court two weeks ago.

He was convicted of sexual harassment for inappropriately touching a female colleague in the basement of the police station in Tórshavn in January of last year.

In addition to the prison sentence, he was ordered to pay legal costs and to compensate the woman with 5,000 krónur. The initial claim for compensation was 20,000 krónur.

The man’s lawyer, Karina Skou, has confirmed that an appeal has been filed with the Landsrættur.

The man maintains his innocence.

The state prosecutor is handling the case, as the Faroese prosecution authority is overwhelmed.
