Faroe Islands

Around 6 PM yesterday evening, the Norwegian rescue service received a report that the Faroese vessel Nadoddur had capsized off the Norwegian coast.

Bad weather conditions were present, with winds reaching 25 meters per second from the south and waves as high as five meters.

The Nadoddur had six people on board, and five of them managed to survive.

A woman in her twenties lost her life. Norwegian media report that search efforts are ongoing for a woman, identified as Karla Dana, a 29-year-old Viking archaeologist from Mexico who resides in Orlando, Florida. She was part of the trip, which was intended to be an adventurous exploration of Viking heritage.

Those rescued include four individuals from Switzerland: Andy Fitze, the captain; Georg Aebi; Martin Fitze; and photographer Säny Blaser. Additionally, Livar Nysted, a Faroese national from Hvannasund, was among the survivors.

The Norwegian Coast Guard has located the Nadoddur, but the weather conditions in the area remain too poor to conduct a search operation for the young woman who ended up trapped beneath the vessel when it capsized.

We spoke a short while ago with Andreas Bull from JRCC Stavanger, who provided an update on the situation.

The Nadoddur departed from a boat company in Tvøroyri on Saturday afternoon after multiple delays due to adverse weather conditions.
