Prosecution seeks stricter sentences in major drug case in Faroe Islands

Wednesday 28th 2024 on 07:28 in
Faroe Islands

Today, the prosecution will seek to have the High Court of the Faroe Islands impose stricter sentences than those handed down by the District Court in the largest drug case to date in the Faroe Islands.

Two young Faroese men were sentenced in mid-April to two years and seven months, and two years and three months respectively.

The prosecution demanded three years and will push for more than three years in the High Court today.

A third man, originally from Lithuania, was acquitted of drug smuggling and dealing charges. However, he was convicted for violence, threats to life, and deprivation of liberty concerning one of the Faroese men. He received a sentence of four months and is to be expelled from the country.

The prosecution has not appealed the acquittal regarding the hashish charges.

The case involved 50.5 kilograms of hashish.

All three men pleaded not guilty during their trial in the District Court.
