Prosecution seeks harsher sentences in largest drug case in Faroese history

Wednesday 28th 2024 on 07:23 in
Faroe Islands

The prosecution today will seek to have the Landsrettur impose harsher sentences than those handed down by the Faroese court in the largest drug case ever tried in the Faroe Islands.

Two young Faroese individuals were sentenced in mid-April to two years and seven months, and two years and three months, respectively.

The prosecution had originally sought three years and is expected to demand more than that in Landsrettur today.

A third man, hailing from Lithuania, was acquitted of charges related to drug smuggling and distribution. However, he was convicted for acts of violence, threats to life, and unlawful detention of one of the Faroese men. For these offenses, he received a four-month sentence and was subsequently expelled from the country.

The prosecution has not appealed the acquittal concerning the hashish charges.

In total, 50.5 kilograms of hashish were involved in this case.

All the defendants maintained their innocence during the proceedings in the Faroese court.
