The Faroese Police Association has issued a warning, stating that the police force is so understaffed it cannot fulfill its responsibilities effectively.

According to Eyðun Dalsgarð, the chairman of the Association, the police are already operating with a million-dollar deficit. Instead of reinforcing the police force, an analysis is being conducted to restructure the police to accommodate this shortfall. Dalsgarð commented during a radio interview yesterday.

The police are expected to save five million, and an initiative is underway to identify potential areas for savings, confirmed Michael Boolsen, the district chief. However, Boolsen argues that these cuts will impact public safety. He also reiterated the Association’s concerns that the police are too understaffed and that the situation is as dire as they claim.

In a related event, Eyðun Dalsgarð welcomed Peter Hummelgaard, the Minister of Justice, during the inauguration of a new shooting training facility for the police last Friday. This highlights ongoing efforts to improve police resources, even amidst budget constraints.

The Police Association has been vocal about the challenges faced by law enforcement, emphasizing that the current situation needs urgent attention to ensure the safety and security of the community.
