Committee to resolve dispute over Faroese membership in WTO

A special committee will resolve the dispute regarding an independent Faroese membership in the WTO. Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen announced this during a press conference on Tuesday afternoon.

Frederiksen emphasized that this is a legal dispute, not a political one. The committee will be established under Article 6 of the Home Rule Act, marking the first time this provision has been used to settle a disagreement between the Faroe Islands and Denmark.

During the press conference following a state meeting held in Aalborg, Frederiksen provided further details about the decision.

Article 6 of the Home Rule Act pertains to legal disputes, specifically in scenarios involving the Faroese government and the Kingdom of Denmark.
