Psychiatrist disputes claims of 20-year ADHD diagnosis wait in Iceland

Tuesday 27th 2024 on 15:33 in
Faroe Islands

The waiting period for an ADHD diagnosis is not 20 years, according to Tormóður Stóra, the chief psychiatrist at the psychiatric department. His statement comes in response to Bjørg Dam, chair of the ADHD Association, who claimed that the next individual on the waiting list could face an incredibly long wait of up to 20 years.

Dam’s assertion is based on the fact that 576 individuals over the age of 18 are currently waiting to be assessed for ADHD. Tormóður Stóra challenges this narrative, stating, “It is not accurate to frame the situation the way Bjørg Dam does.” Nonetheless, he acknowledges that the waiting time is indeed too long.

The issue was discussed in a segment of the morning radio show “Breddanum.”

Complete audio coverage of the segment is available online.
