Court upholds sentence for rape conviction in Tórshavn, Faroe Islands

Faroe Islands

The Eystari Court of Appeal has upheld a sentence given by the Faroese Court for a man found guilty of rape. The ruling includes a conditional prison term of one and a half years.

The prosecution appealed the decision to the higher court, seeking a harsher penalty. The desired sentence ranged from one year and nine months to two years.

The defendant had initially requested a more lenient sentence, arguing that one year would suffice. However, the Court of Appeal confirmed the original ruling from the Faroese Court. The man continues to deny his guilt.

He did not appeal the Faroese Court’s decision that found him guilty.

The man has been in custody since his arrest in March and is required to serve the entire sentence. He was charged and convicted for forcing a peer into oral sex in a restroom at a bar in Tórshavn on March 10 of this year.

As a foreign national, he has been expelled from the Faroe Islands and is banned from re-entering for a period of ten years.
