The prosecutor has appealed to the Vaasa Court of Appeal in a case where a man’s murder charge was dismissed by the Satakunta District Court. In June, the court sentenced a 26-year-old man from Pori to two and a half years in prison for aggravated assault, drug offenses, and theft.

A woman from Pori was found dead in her apartment in Pietniemi after having met the accused in her home during the early hours of February 5. The woman had suffered injuries caused by multiple sharp objects.

The court indicated that the exact sequence of events in the apartment was partly unclear and that there was insufficient evidence to conclude that the man had committed intentional homicide. The accused claimed that the woman was suicidal and had attacked him with a knife. According to the court, several pieces of evidence supported the man’s account of what happened.

In the appeal submitted to the court, the prosecutor harshly criticizes the Satakunta District Court’s June ruling. The prosecutor asserts that the court repeatedly filled in gaps in the defendant’s story and overlooked evidence supporting his guilt. The district court concluded that the victim may have inflicted the stab wounds on herself, citing her suicidal tendencies and mental health issues as supporting factors. However, the prosecutor finds it implausible that the woman would have committed suicide in front of the accused after purchasing amphetamines from him.

The prosecutor continues to seek a murder conviction for the accused.
