The Government Minister has delayed the proposal for surveillance cameras for too long, prompting the Union Party to put forward its own proposal, according to Helgi Abrahamsen, a member of the Parliament.

Bjarni Kárason Petersen, the Minister of Justice, expressed hesitation about whether the proposal will be introduced in this parliamentary session. He is also uncertain whether surveillance would effectively address issues related to crime.

The proposed legislation seeks to empower municipalities to install surveillance cameras in particularly vulnerable areas of urban life. This measure is designed to enhance public safety and address concerns regarding crime in these locations.

The proposal was initially accepted with a vote of 23 in favor and 2 against.
