Over the past few weeks, members of the terror-designated organization Nordic Resistance Movement (NMR) have communicated in internal chat discussions, revealing over a thousand posts. These exchanges include threats against Justice Minister Gunnar Strömmer, who recently spoke about restricting the freedom of association for Nazi and other extremist groups involved in criminal activities.

Anders Jonsson, a long-time NMR member, expressed his willingness to serve a life sentence for the murder of Strömmer. Jonsson has a criminal background, with convictions for incitement against a group, harassment, and violations of knife laws. When approached for comment, he declined.

Another NMR member suggested that killing the Justice Minister would be justifiable if no witnesses were present, stating, “If you have the opportunity and there are no witnesses, go for it.” While the member acknowledged encouraging the act, he downplayed its seriousness, asserting that leading politicians should be accountable for their actions and could be judged by a people’s court.

In response to the threats, Strömmer stated he is not commenting on his personal safety but emphasized that authorities are working systematically against all forms of violent extremism, including right-wing extremism, autonomous leftism, and violent Islamism.

Other politicians have also faced severe hostility in these chats, including Social Democratic leaders Magdalena Andersson and Annika Strandhäll, among others. Legal expert Mårten Schultz assessed that the majority of the comments made in the chats are not legally punishable. Meanwhile, Robin Andersson Malmros from the Segersted Institute views the discussions as indicative of an internal struggle within the NMR between proponents of revolutionary violence and those advocating for broader political support to achieve their extremist goals.
