Maritime Authority reports significant number of Danish fishing vessels lack valid sailing permits

Faroe Islands

A significant number of commercial fishing vessels currently operating lack valid sailing permits, according to the Maritime Authority. In group 5A, only 36 percent of the vessels are sailing legally. Meanwhile, in group 5B, which includes those fishing for more than 200,000 Danish kroner, only 39 percent are compliant with regulations.

It is mandatory for these boats to undergo inspections before the Maritime Authority issues them a sailing permit. The authority emphasized that safety would greatly improve if a valid sailing permit were required prior to a fishing license being granted.

The situation is unsatisfactory, stated the Maritime Authority, which plans to address these discrepancies.
