Two boys injured in landslide incident at Nørre Vorupør, Denmark

A severe accident on Sunday evening has left the community surrounding Nørre Vorupør deeply affected. Two German boys, aged 9 and 12, were buried in a sand and soil landslide at the coastline. Approximately 30 individuals quickly came together to assist in the rescue efforts. Among them was Martin Vennemann, a mechanical engineer on vacation in Denmark, who was nearby when the incident occurred.

Vennemann noticed someone waving their arms and immediately recognized the situation’s seriousness. He ran to the landslide and called for help from those around him. “We had only our hands to dig with, and we worked for almost 20 minutes,” he recalled, emphasizing the urgency of the situation.

Despite the potential dangers at the accident site, Vennemann felt compelled to help. “I did it without thinking. It might have been dangerous for me, but I prioritize children’s well-being over my own. It’s simply what you do,” he stated, noting that he and his wife have four children themselves.

The two boys were reportedly digging a hole when the landslide occurred. They were in critical condition when airlifted to the hospital, and no updates on their status have been released yet. Vennemann has since reflected on the incident, stating he will advise others to be cautious near the unstable cliffs and dunes, especially during stormy weather. Following the accident, local police have issued warnings about the risks of landslides due to severe weather and heavy rainfall, urging the public to exercise caution in these areas.
