East Iceland Police make progress in investigation of elderly couple’s murder in Neskaupstadur
The East Iceland Police have made significant progress in their investigation into the deaths of an elderly couple in Neskaupstadur last week. A man suspected of their murder is currently in custody.
Authorities have been working to establish a timeline of events surrounding the incident, which occurred last Thursday when the couple, both in their eighties, were found deceased in their home on Strandgata. The police are attempting to trace the man’s movements before and after the event, analyze electronic data, and speak with witnesses. They are awaiting the results of an autopsy.
Kristján Ólafur Guðnason, a chief officer with the East Iceland Police, stated that the investigation is proceeding well, giving them a clearer overall understanding of what transpired. However, he refrained from disclosing whether the suspect has confessed or if any weapons were involved.
The suspect remains isolated in custody until August 30th. As the investigation develops, police are focused on connecting any loose ends and finalizing the details of the case.
