A young girl who was the victim of a stabbing incident in downtown Reykjavik over the weekend remains in critical condition. A 16-year-old boy has been placed in custody, suspected of stabbing the girl along with two other youths.

The police have confirmed that the case is under investigation by the central investigation division. The suspect is being held at Hólmsheiði, and measures have been requested for his isolation. Authorities have not provided further comments about the ongoing investigation.

The stabbing incident took place on Saturday, and the police had initially provided first aid at the scene on Skúlagata. The situation remains serious, with the girl still facing life-threatening injuries.

In other news, geological activity on the Reykjanes Peninsula has raised concerns about potential volcanic pollution affecting nearby inhabited areas, while rescue operations continue at Breiðamerkurjökull as search efforts are underway. A 3.4 magnitude earthquake was also recorded near Kleifarvatn.

The ongoing developments in both the security investigation in Reykjavik and the geological activity in Reykjanes have garnered significant public attention in Iceland and remain critical topics of discussion.
