A search and rescue operation is currently underway at a glacier ice cave in Iceland, where two tourists are still missing following a collapse. The Icelandic authorities have activated an emergency plan for group accidents at Breiðamerkurjökull, situated west of Jökulsárlón. Two helicopters from the Coast Guard have been dispatched alongside rescue teams and police.

The incident happened when a group of twenty-five tourists was exploring the ice cave, resulting in injuries when part of the structure fell. Two individuals have been rescued but are reported to be in serious condition, while rescuers continue to search for the two missing tourists.

Conditions at the site are particularly challenging, according to officials. A tourist who had just exited the cave before the collapse described the cave as relatively shallow, about 3-5 meters deep. The tourist, who wished to remain anonymous, mentioned that the group heard sounds of the collapse but did not grasp the severity of the situation until they reached their hotel and saw news reports.

Rescue teams, including specially trained personnel, are on their way to the scene to manage the emergency. A medical helicopter is also en route to transport the injured to Landspítali, the national hospital in Reykjavik.

Authorities have not yet confirmed the total number of injuries or the extent of those affected. As the situation unfolds, further updates will provide additional information regarding the incident and ongoing rescue efforts.
