Severe weather conditions have resulted in mudslides and flooding in northern Iceland, prompting authorities to maintain an uncertainty alert. Significant damage has occurred in various areas due to these weather events.

In Siglufjörður, water from heavy rains reached up to 90 centimeters in the basement of the maritime museum, known as Njarðarskemman. Local residents have faced substantial issues, with homes threatened by rising waters and mudslides. An urgent evacuation was ordered for three households in Húsavík as sediment and water cascaded down a steep slope.

Similarly, near Hofsós, a large section of a hillside collapsed into the Hofsá River, causing no structural damage but leading to the closure of a hiking trail. Community members have described the incident as unprecedented in their experience. Just north of Hofsós, Hrolleifsdal also experienced two mudslides, severing water supplies to neighboring homes.

Continuous rainfall has plagued the region, and the situation remains precarious, especially in areas like Siglufjörður, where flooding has become a critical concern. Firefighters have been working since the previous morning to pump water out of buildings, while local rescue teams have provided additional support with equipment.

The Strákagöng road to Siglufjörður is currently closed due to rockfalls. Forecasts suggest ongoing rain across northern Iceland and the Westfjords, with sporadic showers expected through Sunday night.
