Kavli ordered to cease refrigeration system use at Eslöv factory due to ammonia risks

The Swedish Land and Environment Court of Appeal has ruled that the company Kavli must cease using a refrigeration system from 2011 at its factory in Eslöv, despite its application to expand production. The decision is based on the presence of ammonia in the system, which could pose serious risks to the surrounding area in case of an accident. However, Kavli maintains that its current production is unaffected due to an environmental permit obtained in 2002.

Anna Tiberg, from the Land and Environment Court of Appeal, explained that because Kavli holds an old permit, it cannot be altered. She noted that the existing permit does not cover the refrigeration system in question.

The Eslöv factory produces a variety of products, including mayonnaise, ketchup, vinegar, and soy sauce, under well-known brands such as Johnny’s, Druvan, and Perstorp Ättika.
