An update has been released regarding travel to areas experiencing ongoing mpox transmission. Health authorities emphasize that most travelers do not require vaccination against mpox. This update clarifies that only a limited number of individuals at high risk need this protection, according to Magnus Gisslén, the state epidemiologist.

Vaccination may be advisable for specific groups, including healthcare workers, aid workers, and others who plan to stay in regions with ongoing mpox transmission and who will have close physical contact with individuals in communities where public health measures are deemed insufficient.

Gisslén stresses that the most important preventive measure against mpox for those in areas with ongoing transmission is to avoid close physical contacts, particularly new sexual partners.
