Mackerel fishing in the Faroe Islands has significantly declined so far this year compared to previous years. According to Vørn, as of August 22, 16,265 tons of mackerel have been caught this year. In contrast, on the same date in 2022, nearly 86,000 tons had been harvested, while in 2021, 58,273 tons were recorded.

Last year marked a record for mackerel fishing, with reported catches reaching 157,000 tons around this time. Faroese fishermen operate both in local waters and international seas to catch mackerel.
