Yellow weather alerts issued in Iceland due to strong winds and heavy rainfall

Friday 23rd 2024 on 09:08 in
Iceland

Yellow weather alerts are now in effect from Faxaflói to Langanes due to strong winds and heavy rainfall. A low-pressure system located northeast of Iceland is causing a significant northwesterly wind on the western part of the country today. Winds are not expected to be as strong in the eastern regions.

The low-pressure system is also leading to considerable rainfall in North Iceland and the Westfjords, making travel conditions hazardous in these areas. The risk of landslides and rising water levels in rivers is increasing alongside the rainfall.

Tomorrow, northern regions can expect a cold spell with some light precipitation, while southern parts of the country are anticipated to be generally bright and dry, with temperatures ranging from 5 to 15 degrees Celsius.

Weather warnings will be updated at noon.
