Danish government proposes 2,500 new summer house plots along coastlines amidst conservation concerns

The Danish government plans to allow the establishment of 2,500 new summer house plots along the country’s coastlines. However, the Danish Society for Nature Conservation believes this is a misguided approach. According to director Lars Midtiby, “We must protect our open coastlines. It is quite unique that we have such distinctive coastal stretches, and bit by bit, we are moving in the wrong direction.”

The government’s proposal aims to enhance tourism by increasing the number of available summer house sites. Midtiby argues, “What we need is to strengthen our nature. That is what those seeking to explore rural areas are looking for, as well as what tourists desire.”
