Last week, a man in his fifties was attacked while walking his dog in a parking lot in Vikersund. On Wednesday, an 18-year-old man was remanded in custody for four weeks in connection with the incident.

The father of the accused expressed his pain upon seeing video footage of his son attacking the man. He stated, “As a father, it hurts deeply. I can’t watch the entire video.” The father apologized for his son’s actions, which he acknowledges were wrong. He revealed that his son’s behavior has deteriorated over the past three years, starting with school fights and escalating from there. “He needs help,” he remarked, adding, “He made a mistake, and he deserves punishment. It pains me that he is in jail, but rules are rules. We all must follow the same laws here in Norway.”

The 18-year-old has admitted to hitting the man. His defense attorney, Tom Barth-Hofstad, noted that the teenager is remorseful for the impact his actions have had on his family.

In an alarming turn, the father reported that his workplace has faced vandalism, which he believes is a consequence of his association with his son. He described how banners were destroyed, and surveillance camera cables were cut, stating, “I don’t understand why people want to punish the whole family for my son’s actions.”

The local police have reacted strongly to the vandalism, emphasizing the need for community safety. They also mentioned an upcoming meeting to address these incidents with the local council.

In response to the attack, several fundraising campaigns have emerged on social media aimed at supporting the victim. However, one campaign intended to fund security patrols was shut down for not adhering to guidelines. Funds collected will be refunded to donors.
