Thai authorities confirm first case of clade 1 mpox variant in Asia

Thai authorities have confirmed a suspected case of the viral disease mpox, previously known as monkeypox. The case involves the more contagious clade of the mpox virus, referred to as clade 1. The infected individual is reported to be in their 60s and recently traveled to Thailand from Africa. According to reports, this marks the first confirmed case of this new variant in Asia.
