The Eystari Landsrættur swiftly ruled on the case involving Daniel Binyon, the captain of the John Paul deJoria, during a court session this morning. In July of last year, Binyon was fined 157,000 Danish kroner by the Føroya Rættur for breaching the 12 nautical mile limit in Faroese waters.
Bjørn á Heygum, Binyon’s lawyer, argued for a hearing despite the captain’s inability to attend court. However, the Landsrættur disagreed and dismissed the case, thereby upholding the original ruling from the Føroya Rættur. This outcome came as a surprise to Bjørn á Heygum, who represents the captain.
