Daniel Binyon, the skipper, has not arrived at the scheduled hearing in the Eastern High Court in Tórshavn, which was set for 9 AM. According to his lawyer, Bjørn á Heygum, Binyon is currently at sea.

However, Bjørn á Heygum intends to request that the case proceeds despite the skipper’s absence, citing the relatively minor nature of the penalties involved.

The prosecution is expected to call for the High Court to dismiss the case, thereby upholding the ruling made by the Faroese court.

In July of last year, the skipper was fined 157,000 Danish kroner by the Faroese court. He is appealing the verdict to the High Court. Binyon was convicted for violating a ban that prohibited the vessel from entering the Faroese 12-nautical-mile territorial sea limit. The fines amounted to two instances of 75,000 kroner each for breaking the regulation concerning this exclusion zone. In addition, he received a 7,000 kroner fine for breaching passport and customs controls.

The Eastern High Court has scheduled three hours to consider Daniel Binyon’s case.
