The Vantaa and Kerava welfare area is launching an urgent cost-saving program for the remainder of the year, aiming to achieve savings of €13.4 million. The region announced it will implement cuts to purchased services and staff leasing, as well as tighten recruitment approvals.

Previously, the welfare area estimated that its finances would be €100 million in deficit this year. A recent interim report revealed an additional projected deficit of €13.4 million. During today’s meeting, the Vantaa and Kerava regional council decided to address this extra deficit through savings measures.

According to the interim report, the availability of services in the Vantaa and Kerava welfare area has generally improved. The waiting times for elderly care have decreased, with no patients having to wait three months for round-the-clock care. Access to healthcare services has also seen improvements.

During today’s regional council meeting, it was emphasized that the cost-saving measures should not jeopardize the objectives of the reform program that began last spring.
