Students enrollment in special education classes doubles in Faroe Islands

Faroe Islands

The number of students enrolled in special education classes in public schools has doubled over the past five years. In 2019, there were 142 students in these classes, whereas this year, the number has risen to 301, according to preliminary figures from the Education Directorate for the current school year.

The establishment of a special education regulation in 2019 is one factor contributing to this increase in enrollment. Both Fuglafjordur Municipality and Eystur Municipality have applied to create specialized classes in their schools.
