Police have interviewed a suspect in connection with the electric scooter accident in Espoo, as reported by the case’s lead investigator, Commissioner Hannu Kontola. The suspect has admitted to being involved in the incident and is a minor aged between 15 to 17 years.

The investigation is still in its early stages, so Kontola has refrained from detailing the specifics of the interrogation or commenting on whether substances may have influenced the incident.

The case involves a collision that occurred on Thursday, August 15, in Leppävaar, Espoo, between two men riding electric scooters. An older man was crossing a pedestrian crossing on his scooter when he was struck at high speed by a younger rider, who fled the scene almost immediately.

On the afternoon of Friday, August 16, police reported that the older man succumbed to his injuries. Later the same day, the other party involved in the accident turned themselves in to the authorities.

The police are investigating the case as a serious endangerment of traffic safety, aggravated manslaughter, and hit-and-run. Kontola noted that the sequence of events has been reasonably clarified, yet they are continuing their efforts to gather more information.

The preliminary investigation will proceed with interviews of witnesses and others who may have relevant information, along with additional investigative actions by the police.
