Two children from the Faroe Islands are currently residing in a residential facility in Denmark under child protection laws.

Last year, four Faroese children were in similar accommodations. From 2019 to 2022, a total of 25 Faroese children and youths utilized these facilities.

It should be noted that, in most cases, the stay for each individual often extends beyond a year. This information comes from Djóni Nolsøe Joensen, a government minister, in response to inquiries from Liljan Weihe, a member of the Faroese Parliament.

The Faroese Appeals Board decides on placements in residential facilities. Over the past four years, two such facilities have been established in the Faroe Islands.

From 2019 to 2023, 19 individuals have been at a residential treatment facility in Denmark, with the government contributing approximately 48.3 million kr. for their care. This figure was also revealed by Sirið Stenberg, a government minister, in her reply to Weihe.

Additionally, from 2019 to 2023, 22 young people have attended school in Denmark as part of employment-promoting initiatives. Since 2015, the Faroese Social Services have created 17 new placements in residential treatment facilities within the Faroe Islands.
