Faroese vessel Arctic Voyager heads to Norwegian waters for mackerel fishing

Monday 19th 2024 on 09:43 in
Faroe Islands

The first Faroese vessel is now on its way to Norwegian waters to fish for mackerel.

Arctic Voyager departed from Fuglafjørður yesterday evening.

Currently, it is the only Faroese ship that has applied for permission to fish for mackerel in Norwegian waters. Most Faroese vessels typically fish for mackerel in international waters to the north, while a few operate within Faroese waters.

This year, the Faroe Islands have been granted a quota to catch 35,191 tons, which amounts to 40 percent of their total mackerel quota, in Norwegian waters.

A total of 12 ships are permitted to fish in these waters simultaneously, but 21 vessels have applied. As a result, a draw was held to determine the order of participation.
