For five years, 37-year-old Matias Kerminen has traveled across Finland in his aged promotional camper, buying gold, silver, and other valuables from individuals. Equipped with an acid testing kit, he recently purchased jewelry and collectibles, including commemorative medals. He notes that the current global gold prices are at an all-time high, resulting in an increase in transactions at various locations, including parks and markets.

Kerminen is affiliated with prominent companies like Jalonom Oy and Suomen Kulta ja Hopea Oy, both reporting a surge in customers eager to sell their gold. Jalava, the CEO of Suomen Kulta ja Hopea Oy, indicated either high prices or urgent financial needs could be driving this trend.

A typical workday sees Kerminen stopping at multiple sites, including introduction stops like Rauma before heading to Euro and Huittinen. On his journey, he tested potential purchases like a Matti Nykänen medal and various golden cufflinks. Some purchases succeeded, while others, such as a gold-plated commemorative plate, prompted disappointment.

Kerminen’s business model includes hefty advertising campaigns to attract a primarily older clientele who may not respond to social media promotions. He aims to expand his operations to Sweden, where he believes more people have gold to sell.

By the end of his workday, Kerminen had acquired around 150 grams of gold items, expecting to extract roughly 90 grams of pure gold. He plans to sell them for around €6,500 to companies that refine gold for the global market. After a long day of work, Kerminen settles down for the night in his camper, reflecting on his extensive entrepreneurial journey.
