Over the weekend, people gathered for the Regatta and Ovastevna festivals in Nólsoy, with organizers reporting a large turnout.

The ferry Ternan operated hourly until 8 a.m. this morning, returning the last festival-goers to the capital, Tórshavn, with the final departure at 5:30 a.m.

Weather conditions yesterday were poor, leading to the cancellation of the swimming event in Nólsoy Fjord. Additionally, the regatta, which typically begins in Eiði and concludes in Nólsoy, faced interruptions due to inclement weather, according to the organizers. Fewer boats participated in this year’s Ovastevna.

Local police reported a busy night. In Klaksvík, there were disturbances, with two men getting into a confrontation. Both individuals have been charged for violating regulations and face fines.

As usual, the police had a presence in Nólsoy during the festival. They received reports of vandalism and threats, but by the time they arrived on the scene, the alleged culprit had fled back to Tórshavn on the ferry. Police awaited the suspect at the harbor but the individual jumped into the water when approached. Fortunately, the police were later able to detain him, and the case is now under review regarding potential charges and whether he will be held in custody.

The suspect is accused of threatening an individual in Nólsoy with a weapon.

Additionally, another violent incident was reported, this time involving severe abuse and threats. Police are aware of the suspect’s identity and he is scheduled to be interrogated later today, along with witnesses. The victim sustained minor injuries to the face and required a visit to the national hospital.

Traffic checks conducted yesterday in Norðskála and Oyrabakki resulted in one driver receiving a ticket for using a mobile phone while driving, with penalties now increased to a fine of 1,500 kroner and points deducted from their driving license. Another driver received a conditional sentence for speeding.
