Iceland

Just minutes ago, seismic activity in the Tjörnes Fracture Zone has been reported, with nearly thirty earthquakes occurring in the Skjálfandi Bay region this afternoon and evening. A duty natural hazard expert from the Icelandic Meteorological Office noted that swarms of earthquakes like this are common in the area, which is known for its geological activity.

The earthquakes have not been particularly strong, with the largest recorded at a magnitude of 2.3, and they remain unverified. A similar swarm was last detected on July 15. Most of the seismic events have their origins near Flatey in Skjálfandi Bay.
