Uber to return to Denmark as conventional taxi service in 2024

Uber is set to make a return to Denmark next year, but with a noteworthy change. Instead of the familiar ride-sharing model where users are picked up by private drivers in their own vehicles, Uber will operate as a conventional taxi service. Customers will experience the same pricing as traditional taxis, raising questions about the service’s unique value.

Christian Johannesen, a supporter of market alternatives, expressed skepticism about the new model. “I can’t really see the benefit of them coming back if it’s just standard taxis,” he commented, adding that it seems counterintuitive. Johannesen found the prospect particularly perplexing, especially considering that the pricing will be identical to regular taxis.

The sentiment was echoed by others, including both Danish citizens and international tourists interviewed by a local news outlet. Many of them were puzzled over how this proposed model would differentiate itself in a competitive market. Reactions ranged from disbelief to confusion, as prospective users ponder whether the return of Uber in this form would actually benefit them.

As the service prepares for its re-entry, it remains to be seen how this new approach will be received and whether it can successfully carve out a niche in Denmark’s transportation landscape.
