Adults to receive Faroese language instruction in Faroe Islands schools

Faroe Islands

Several upper secondary schools in the Faroe Islands have announced that adults who speak Faroese as a second language will be able to receive instruction in Faroese. The classes are set to commence in September.

The participating schools include the Upper Secondary School in Kambsdalur, the Upper Secondary School in Suðuroy, and the Glasir School. The schools will publicly announce the start dates for the courses on the first day of classes.

This initiative follows a law passed by the Faroese Parliament in the spring, which guarantees Faroese language education for all residents in the Faroe Islands over compulsory school age who do not have Faroese as their first language. The legislation aims to ensure access to teaching and education in Faroese for these individuals.

The Ministry of Children and Education stated that the Education Agency, in collaboration with accredited schools, will coordinate the delivery of this language instruction.
