Efforts strengthen security and economic ties between Faroe Islands and United States

Efforts to ensure security and economic stability in the North Atlantic are taking precedence. Both parties agree that the Faroe Islands play a significant role in this context.

Direct communication between Faroese and American authorities is to be prioritized, as discussed during a recent meeting between U.S. Secretary of the Navy Carlos Del Toro and Høgni Hoydal, the Faroese Minister. The officials also talked about the upcoming Faroese embassy in Washington and potential collaborations between the Faroe Islands and the United States on cybersecurity.

Secretary Del Toro expressed gratitude for the excellent cooperation and high-quality services, particularly in relation to submarine visits to the Faroe Islands. He acknowledged that the fishing industry holds special interests for the Faroe Islands, appreciating the measures implemented by the region in response to Russia’s actions. Furthermore, he thanked the Faroe Islands for their support towards Ukraine.

The meeting was held virtually, as Del Toro was unable to travel to the Faroe Islands due to inclement weather on Wednesday. He expressed hope to visit the region later.
