Search and rescue teams are conducting operations in the Kerlingarfjöll region to locate tourists who have possibly become lost in thick fog. Efforts were reported to have begun in the area.

Ten rescue teams from the South have been dispatched, as confirmed by Jon Thor Viglundsson, a spokesperson for the Icelandic Search and Rescue Association. All teams were mobilized from areas east of Hellisheiði and near the Þjórsá River.

The travelers made contact earlier this evening and are still in communication with the rescue personnel. They indicated that they plan to remain where they are and keep warm until help arrives. Although foggy conditions persist in the region, sources indicate that there should be a relatively clear access route to their location.
