Shooting incident under investigation in Jätkäsaari, Helsinki

A shooting incident occurred in Jätkäsaari, Helsinki, during the night from Friday to Saturday. According to Jari Korkala, a detective with the Helsinki Police Department, two separate groups were involved in the incident, which took place on Hyväntoivonkatu around 1 a.m.

The altercation started between two individuals, leading to a roughly 40-year-old man firing a firearm. Preliminary police reports indicate that he shot into the air in the middle of the street. Korkala noted that the shooter threatened two people during the incident. Additionally, there were other men of similar age accompanying the shooter, while the other group consisted of men in their 30s.

Police apprehended one individual at the scene and confiscated the weapon used. Thankfully, no injuries were reported. Other people present at the location were not directly involved in the events.

The investigation is currently focused on firearm offenses, illegal threats, and causing danger. Korkala indicated that authorities are working to determine whether the two groups knew each other prior to the incident. He clarified that there are no indications of significant criminal backgrounds associated with either group.

Authorities have interviewed two individuals regarding the case, but one person has yet to be contacted. The police are continuing their technical investigation into the shooting incident.
