Concern grows over foreign tour guides operating without permits in Faroe Islands

In the Faroe Islands, there is a growing concern regarding foreign tour guides operating without the necessary work permits. Kristina Ellendersen, a lawyer at the Immigration Office, highlighted that many foreign tour guides, particularly those from outside the Nordic region, are violating immigration laws.

The Faroese Tour Guide Association has noted the presence of numerous foreign tour guides lacking proper authorization. In some instances, foreign travel agencies are required to send their guides to the Faroe Islands. However, if these foreign companies dispatch their own guides, a regular work permit is mandatory, according to Ellendersen.

The Immigration Office has received very few applications for tour guide permits, suggesting that many guides may be working illegally. This situation raises critical questions about compliance with immigration regulations and the implications for the tourism sector in the region.
