Few individuals seek work permits for tour guides in Faroe Islands

There are few individuals seeking work permits to act as tour guides in the Faroe Islands, indicating that many foreign tour guides are likely working without authorization.

Kristina Ellendersen, a lawyer at the immigration office, highlights the issue. The Faroe Islands Tour Guide Association has raised concerns that numerous foreign tour guides, particularly those who are not from the Nordic countries, are operating in the archipelago, thereby violating immigration laws.

In some cases, foreign travel agencies are required to send their tour guides to the Faroe Islands. However, if these foreign companies send their own guides, a standard work permit is necessary, according to Ellendersen.

The immigration office has received very few applications for tour guide permits, which suggests that many may be working without the required documentation.
