Earthquakes recorded in Reykjanes Peninsula with significant tremors at Reykjanestá

Earthquakes have been recorded in the Reykjanes Peninsula this morning, with two significant tremors measured at Reykjanestá. The first earthquake had a magnitude of 2.3, followed by a second measuring 2.5. Additionally, five earthquakes exceeding a magnitude of 2 were detected approximately 23 kilometers southwest of Eldey, with the largest occurring at 7:30 AM, registering a magnitude of 3.

Experts from the Icelandic Meteorological Office indicate that such seismic swarms are common in the region and are not necessarily linked to volcanic activity or eruptions associated with the Sundhnúkur crater row. However, earthquake activity in the area continues to increase day by day, along with land uplift, suggesting that the region may be approaching another magma intrusion and potentially an eruption in the near future.

As a result, there is an elevated likelihood of significant geological events occurring in the coming days.
